About

What are you Drinking? explores everyday adventures that are enhanced with a delicious drink. It is a comprehensive look at the wine, beer and spirits industries, the people who produce the beverages, the people who serve beverages and great drink recommendations. In addition to interviews with wine, brewing and distilling industry luminaries, it has wine, beer, spirits, cocktail, bar and restaurant reviews with recipes and pairings to help you enjoy these drinks. What Are You Drinking?

I am an avid beverage enthusiast with a passion for wine. I stay current with the wine, beer and spirits industry as a board member of the Wine & Food Foundation of Texas, a Certified Sommelier in the Court of Master Sommeliers and a frequent culinary and beverage judge for events and awards. I am also a regular contributing Food & Drink writer for CultureMap, Austin Man Magazine and Austin Woman Magazine.

What Are You Drinking? has been recognized as a Top 10 Food Blogger in 2013 and 2014 by the Austin Chronicle and with a 2011 Texas Social Media Award by the Austin American-Statesman. My culinary and beverage expertise has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, KVUE TV, and in a Bravo TV series.

When I’m not writing about beverages after work, I spend time playing with my kids, drinking with Beautiful Wife, riding my  bike around Austin (sober), playing soccer and dreaming about my retirement  job at a winery, distillery or brewery. During the day, I’m the founder of Pen & Tell Us Strategic Storytelling, providing marketing and communications services to food & beverage companies as well as other clients. My views expressed here are solely mine.

  1. I think your blog and my blog should be friends. Not the kind of friends that always talk about getting together and never do. The kind of friends that get together on the weekends and cause trouble and give each other rides to hard-to-find location with very similar sounding names. Like, for, example, Saltgrass and Salt Lick. Yeah…those kind of friends 

  2. Thank you for visiting the Finger Lakes and for sharing your experience with your audience. You truly captured the essence of the Finger Lakes region with your words and imagery. We hope you’ll visit us again soon! Cheers!

  3. I have a restaurant in the middle of Texas called The Turtle. We also have a gelateria and a wine bar with craft cocktails and craft beers. We make everything from scratch. We’re not purists about farm to market but we do what we can. We’ve been in business since 2004 slowly developing and growing. Because we are more than three hours from Austin, San Antonio and Dallas Fort Worth is has been hard to get the word out to people who care about food and wine. We are truly in the middle of this big state. I am hoping that you might be willing to do us a favor and pass the word around about us to your readers.

I want to tell you about this award we won from The World of Fine Wine magazine, London this month. We were a bit shocked that we were given two stars for our wine list. Only 387 establishments in the world received this esteemed two-star accolade! The World of Fine Wine is kind of a serious wine magazine for collectors and serious wine geeks. It’s beautifully produced. So I am gobstopped! Our little casual fine dining restaurant out here in redneckville won a 2 star?! Come for a visit if you can! I am headed to Tales of The Cocktail July 17-23 but will be here after that.
